A sad day for this country: Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died.
Throughout his long and remarkable life he was, as so many others have already said, an unshowy but resolute example of the timeless virtues of courage, reserve, loyalty, steadfastness, and good humour. His achievements are many, but perhaps his greatest is to have been, as all husbands and fathers should be, simply and steadily there, in season and out of season, for better and for worse. This serious core was never far beneath the levity. That such a man held the position he did is not, I think, to be taken for granted.
Her Majesty the Queen, who has lost her ‘strength and stay’, is very much in mind, as is the whole of the Royal Family.
He rests from his labours; may life everlasting be his.
As a huge admirer of Queen Elizabeth II, I am very sad that she is facing her final years without the aid of her spouse. He seems to have been quite an impish fellow, which I also greatly admire. God bless them both!
ReplyDelete'Impish' is the word! Yes, it is very sad. It is a consolation, though, that in what has turned out to be the last year of their married life they must have had more quiet times in each other's company than in almost any other.
